As we made the transition from Dubai to the Netherlands in January 2020, we knew we had to rethink our methods and were on a mission to make sustainable fine jewellery the new norm. So we set out to find the most sustainable way for us to produce our jewellery, starting with the main component, the Gold!
After thorough research and having compared it to the likes of fairmined and fairtrade gold (read more about the differences here) we eventually came across a small town in Andalusia, South Spain called Córdoba. Renowned not only for their incredible grand mosque-cathedral ‘Mezquita’ where Islam & Christianity co-exist, but also for their Gold and Silver craftsmanship, producing 60% of Spain’s jewellery making them the experts and the leaders of the trade.
Nestled in the picturesque Old Town of Córdoba; lies a family-based workshop that carries three generations of experience, traditions and authenticity since 1950, and yet it still had something unique that would support us in becoming a more sustainable brand: Recycled Gold!
“This is Gold with a Story”
The reason we decided to work with recycled gold is for the very simple reason that it already exists on this planet, meaning that we are not relying on miners to extract it in a way that is harmful to both the environment and the people around it. We are simply re-purposing what is already in our surroundings; melting it down, refining it and creating something new. It is important to understand that there is never any degradation in the quality of Gold which makes it just as good now as it was when it was mined centuries ago. The only difference is, this is gold with a story; little memories cast in metal whilst giving the old a new life with a new meaning and in turn reducing our environmental footprint.
We believe every decision should be made with intention, from our designs to our materials to our operations, so we can feel good about the jewellery that becomes a part of you and you can feel good about wearing them. We also want to maintain a giving back promise which means that for every piece we sell we will give back to our community in the form of planting trees, contributing towards making this world a better place for us all.
